I am SO thankful that I met Sabine at a youth hostel in Carcassonne, France in 1985, after teacher's college. She graciously invited me back to her family's home in the Black Forest of Germany after my eurail trip. We played guitar and cycled 50 km on one-speed bikes to her grandma's house. After a French course a few years later, I met Sabine and her aunt in my ancestral town of Strasbourg, France, and then she visited me in Canada twice, when I was pregnant with each of my two sons. I came to Carrollton when Sean was born and then for a Texas road trip five years ago. Despite the miles between us and the responsibilities of teaching and child rearing, each time we got together, we always had the best adventures and it always felt like time had not passed. She always gave generously and even shared her lovely friends with me. For 38 years, I looked forward to her wonderful Christmas letters, and was inspired to write my own. She was a kindred spirit, and will be sadly missed. Rest in peace, my dear friend!

The world lost a very vibrant person who touched many people's lives. I have memories of speaking French with Sabine at French tables, going to Contra dances and Hootenannies, and spending time with her, Cliff, and Sean. One funny memory was when she volunteered to take care of our new kitten while my husband David and I went on a trip. We dropped our kitten, Princess, off at Sabine's apartment, and Princess commandeered Sabine's' every waking moment in that apartment. I think Princess, besides destroying any of Sabine's possessions that she considered a toy, kept Sabine up most of the nights she spent with her. Sabine looked happier than Princess did when we came to pick her up. I often wondered if that experience kept Sabine from ever wanting a pet in her life! David and I cherish our memories of Sabine, one of my first and oldest friends in the Metroplex.

Just returned from a short trip I am sitting in my office and reading the sad news of Sabine's sudden death. With tears in the eyes I remember: we grew up together in the same street in Germany, went to the same schools, met for sunday morning runs in the nearby forest, played volleyball in front of our house... RIP dear friend

Dear Cliff and Sean, I was so shocked when I got the message of Sabine's death 2 weeks ago. By that time I was looking forward to our meetings in June in our home town Emmendingen - same procedure nearly every year since she has left for Texas! I still can't believe, that she will never come again to have a coffee at the „Mahlwerkk" or Pizza in the City! 13 years we went not only to school together, we were very close friends as well and I accompanied her when we went the first time to the USA on easter 1981 for 3 weeks to Storrs, Connecticut for school exchange. We both just turned 16 and I'm convinced that Sabine decided by that time that she wanted to live only in America! And she did it! Sabine, I miss you and I will think of you every time, when I go to town passing by our coffee shop and all the other meeting points. I will see and hear you laughing and telling stories and for me you will be allways near and by writing this my eyes are getting wet and so many memories come to my mind! RIP

The best, most patient teacher I ever had. Always so respectful of her students, even during our numerous interruptions. We drew close because language in all of us facilitates that. She knew that and shared her beloved German culture and experiences with us. I was enriched and privileged to know her. She is and remains in my prayers.
